The
Blue Horizon Project refinery is
a $3.7 billion facility designed to meet the demand for superior upgrading and refining capacity in the Peace River Area.
With the 50,000 barrels per day first phase slated for completion in 2012, the
Blue Horizon refinery will be the first crude bitumen upgrader and processing facility in the region. Since the refinery will be producing only finished products – ultra low-sulphur diesel and gasoline – it will truly be a refinery, not just an upgrader producing synthetic crude oil. Subsequent phases are planned to reach its ultimate capacity of 200,000 barrels per day.
With world energy demands on the rise, and a declining supply of light crude, the time is right for a facility capable of upgrading and refining heavy crude bitumen, in the heart of Alberta’s third largest and least developed oil sands region.
Through the use of advanced technologies, and by taking advantage of an existing site ideally located in close proximity to supply and transport, the
Blue Horizon Project Refinery will open the doors to an untapped source of energy, with features that make the project an attractive investment.
